Our October Lesson Theme: "I Choose God," is moving right along! The Sunday Lesson on 10 11 2020 is: "Overcoming Temptation." It is the metaphysical interpretation of Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness when he met with the Adversary/Satan (human ego that has not yet embraced a spiritual consciousness). The references in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark & Luke refer to this as the Devil, tempting Jesus to use His newly acquired spiritual consciousness for personal gain.
The account of Jesus' Temptation in the Wilderness is a colorful story of how our own human ego can lead us into making decisions that lead us away from living a spiritual life and discourage us from expressing the Divine Light within our own being.
Also, tomorrow is our weekly study class, "Spiritual Support" and we are currently studying Rev. Eric Butterworth's book, Spiritual Economics...the prosperity process. The chapter for tomorrow's discussion is: "If You Can Believe." Class begins at 11:00 a.m. We discuss key points in the chapter, pray and bless a love offering at the end of class (12:00 p.m., Noon). We still have three (3) copies of the book available for sale at $13.95, each. Please make your check for the book to: Rev. Jeri Linn.
We are blessed by the talent of Anne Louise Christensen as our Guest Music Director this Sunday. She also gratefully reports that her husband, Geno Escarrega received a "Negative" Cat Scan for Cancer tumors in his lungs at The City of Hope Hospital on Monday, October 5, 2020. We have been praying with Geno with his journey through hip replacement surgeries and Cancer. If you have a prayer request, please contact our dear Nancy Buhl, Prayer Director for Unity Church of the Valley at: 310-578-61293 (Marina del Rey, CA) or call our Unity Church Office at: 818-249-4396. We believe in the power of Affirmative Prayer!
Marshall Hall is our devoted Sound Board Technician every week. His birthday is October 26th and on the first Sunday of every month, we celebrate Birthday Sunday, so, we celebrated his birthday last week with cake, song and laughter! Marshall is pleased to report that he can now have a brief visit with his wife, Marlene at the Foothill Retirement Care Home in La Crescenta. A Nurse brings Marlene to one side of a padlocked gate and Marshall is on the other side. So, little by little, the Care Home is easing up on some of the Covid-19 Virus restrictions. Of course, our prayers are for those locked front gates to open wide and allow family and visitors to meet with the residents, again.
Come and join us on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. You will still need to enter through the side door (upper parking lot), which is the Minister's Office. It is my understanding that by the end of October, the current Sanctuary Doors will be replaced. Divine Order Rules in All Plans & Projects!
Janet Bailey, Rick & Patti Halliday make the morning coffee and set out the tasty salads, side dishes, cheese & crackers, fruit and desserts each week. We are grateful for all the loving hearts that make Unity Church of the Valley possible!
PS Gilmore Rizzo, husband of Bryan Miller posted on Face Book that he and Bryan discussed plans for a Memorial Service just before Bryan made his transition. It is Bryan's wish to hold a Memorial service in an outdoor venue when the weather is cooler. He also wants plenty of joyful music and laughter to celebrate his life .... nothing sorrowful, please! We were so grateful to have had the gifts of incredible musical talent from Bryan Miller and his husband Gilmore Rizzo as part of our music team. Bryan recently received a prestigious award for Best Supporting Actor in the recent production of "Anything Goes" in Palm Springs, CA. Gilmore accepted the award on Bryan's behalf. The current donation listed on the GoFundMe Memorial for Bryan Miller is $11,484! God's rich blessings to Lori Savage for organizing the GoFundMe Memorial. If you would like to send a card of support and/or financial gift to Gilmore Rizzo, the home address is: 76589 Florida Avenue; Palm Desert, CA 92211.
